5B Day 2...Pompeii

We had a great time today in the shadow of Vesuvius! With a little imagination, we were like the ancients themselves, playing in the amphitheatre, acting onstage in the theatre, living the life of the wealthy in a beautiful domus, and of course, shopping along the Via della Abbondanza.
Protect the emporer!!!!Anyone for a hot meal?

The acting crew!

Ms. Beeton makes a great Mt. Vesuvius, as the Pompeians try to escape.
Back to the future...ahh modern technology.

We are looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow as we head to Herculaneum, then home!

5C Day Two: Pompeii

We had a delayed start to our second day. After a visit to the emergency room on Monday evening, Ms. Curria and Mr. Tony accompanied Arpit to the hospital this morning to see an orthopedic specialist and have a cast put on his fractured wrist. We stayed in the hotel and Mr. Litman read to us from The Secrets of Vesuvius by Caroline Lawrence. The delay was actually good for the group, because there was a workers STRIKE at the Pompeii excavations and we were not able to enter until the strike was over at 12 noon.

After Ms. Curria told us about the Amphitheater,
we played a game of Kill the Emperor.

We did a lot of walking, exploring many parts of the ancient city.

Vittoria and Enrico enjoyed being the owners of a bar. It seemed that there were more bars in Pompeii than there are in modern Rome.

Ms. Curria often showed us drawings that showed what different parts of Pompeii looked like when it was a thriving Roman city.

We saw graffiti from before the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

We took a snack break in the old market. We didn't buy any vegetables or meat, but we did play a game of Duck, Duck, Goose around the columns in the center of the market.

Did Tommy find a kimchi pot?

The hotel in Sorrento was very nice. We had a good place for reading and we had great food!
